Supervisions
Supervision should foster a culture of mutual support, teamwork and continuous improvement, which encourages the confidential discussion of sensitive issues. Our supervision allows for appraisal of staff in their role, celebrating achievements and offering support for improvement. It also has a focus on the well-being and health of staff which are reviewed from their responses to the Well-being Survey, Wellness Action Plan and following discussion, support will be offered where appropriate.
Supervision should provide opportunities for staff to:
-
discuss any safeguarding concerns whether for children, families or staff this should include any concerns for health or well-being
-
hear their achievements and areas for development
-
identify solutions to address issues as they arise for any aspect of preschool life
-
receive planned support for coaching and support to improve their personal effectiveness
-
work with staff to help support their work/life balance
-
identify next steps for CPD
The Fledglings provides regular supervision for all staff
-
We aim to offer staff a supervision each term
-
These are carried out by Sophie or Jane
-
They are booked in advance in agreement with the staff member
-
They should last around 30 minutes
-
They are held confidentially away from other staff and people in the setting
-
They may be done sitting in the Garden room or on a walk
The supervisions take the form of:
1. An online well-being survey – the link for this is sent out in advance and should be completed at least one day before the meeting
2. A safeguarding discussion - a time to raise any concerns you may have for children, families or other staff, any concerns are recorded on separate Communication forms and discussed at the managers’ safeguarding meeting
3. A discussion to include –·
· Well-being referring to their 365 form including work/life balance
· Their role - any worries or concerns,
· New developments - the children, the setting, how we run, ways we can improve
· Personal achievements
· Areas for development - agreement of clear objectives and success criteria
· CPD and training - support in the achievement of objectives and development

Summary emails of the meeting will be sent to staff within 2 weeks of the meeting. Any specific concerns or areas for development are then followed up by managers.
Staff are required to read and sign a supervision agreement at the start of their employment.
