Forest Fridays
Fridays at The Fledglings are our forest-inspired days, led by Caz, a qualified teacher, alongside Kennedy. Many of our Friday children are flexi-schooled, attending mainstream school from Monday to Thursday and joining us for one day each week. Others are fully home educated and choose Friday as a stand-alone part of their week.
Our Friday group is a completely separate, stand-alone group from our core Wednesday–Friday provision, with its own children, rhythm and identity.
Fridays are rooted in nature, practical skills and slowing down. Children learn to build and light fires, cook outdoors, use tools, create natural crafts and develop the confidence to work safely and independently in the woodland. There is also a strong focus on mindfulness and learning how to feel calm and connected in nature.
Our apothecary garden provides endless opportunities to explore plants and their traditional uses, from making fruit and herbal teas to creating simple natural remedies. Children also develop a rich knowledge of the natural world, learning to identify birds, minibeasts, plants and the changing signs of the seasons.
Some Fridays take us further afield, with adventures in our minibuses allowing children to learn through new places, experiences and real-life opportunities.
The children form their own consistent group, building genuine friendships beyond their usual school or home-education circles while enjoying a completely different rhythm of learning.
Fridays are about nature, friendship, adventure and developing skills that stay with children for life.
Our Friday provision runs term-time only, from 9:00am - 3:00pm and costs £54 per day. We invoice half-termly in advance.
